Gloucester Rugby make it three from three in the Premiership Rugby Cup

Despite an early disappointment for the home team - Caolan Englefield leaving the field through injury within the first passage of play – it was Gloucester who opened the scoring.

The home team shipped the ball wide from an attacking scrum, sending play to Jack Reeves, on the wing who dived over for the opening try. Lloyd Evans missed the conversion to leave Gloucester head by 5.

A loose ball from the visitors inside Gloucester’s half put the Cherry & Whites on the counter- attack, Jake Morris drawing in replacement scrum-half Matty Jones, who sailed across the whitewash. Evans secured the conversion to put Gloucester ahead by 12, extending that lead further moments later with a penalty kick. 15-0

Jake Morris, who had been instrumental in Gloucester’s second score, delivered a wonder try, intercepting a Harlequin’s pass inside the 22 before sprinting to the other end of the field and over the line. Evans added the extras. 22-0.

The first period of pressure from the visitors saw Santi Socino yellow carded, the hooker committing repeated infringements at the defensive line. With the home side down to 14-men, Quins heaved over the line, Sam Riley crossing in the corner. Will Edwards added the extras. 22-7

Will Joseph took advantage of the extra man, scoring the visitor’s second try as half-time struck. Edwards made it two-from-two to put Quins eight-points behind at the break.

The second half started to a looser affair, both teams shipping the ball through the hands, putting pace into the proceedings. It wasn’t, in fact, until the 64th minute until a score was had, Will Edwards slotting a penalty kick. 22-17

Gloucester responded with their own three-points minutes after as Lloyd Evans reinstated the home side’s lead to eight with proved to be the difference come the full-time whistle. Full time score: 25-17
