New cups at Kingsholm

For the 2022/23 season, Gloucester Rugby and Freemans Event Partners have changed their reuse-able cups. 

The One Cup soloution that was in place last season required more energy to manufacture, transport to a Walsall cleaning station and further workforce to collect on site. To be truly sustainable the One Cup must be used multiple times and unfortunately 24,000 cups were either taken home or disposed of, and not returned to allocated area. On multiple occasions, local pubs and bars reported having cups returned to them. Secondly, we found some beer quality issues with the One Cup as beer would go flat quite quickly.

 Gloucester Rugby and Freemans Event Partners decided to trial a new plastic cup this season, which are made from recycled plastic (rPET) and are fully recyclable through Gloucester Rugby Club’s waste contractor Smith’s, meaning they can be recirculated into new products. We would ask for your help in ensuring that all of cups are put in one of the 27 recycling bins around the ground, pre, during and post the matches, as this will help the club in becoming more sustainable. We are currently on a journey together to become more sustainable. We are always looking for innovative ideas that meets the needs of our customers whilst minimising ours and your environmental impact. This is only the beginning, and we welcome your continued feedback and knowledge to help us with our goals in this area.
