Gloucester Rugby Academy U17s side for derby day revealed

Gloucester Rugby Academy's U17s take on West Country rivals Bath Rugby at Chippenham RFC this Saturday. The fixture kicks off at 1pm.

Last time out, the U17s put in a brilliant performance to beat Exeter Chiefs 32-45 away from home.

Tries from Woody Walker (x2), Taite Fortey, Jo Hamilton, Sol Shand, Leo Mullis and Harry Tovey gave Matt Teague's side a deserved win.

Gloucester Rugby's forward of the match was Kealan Freeman-Price of Dean Magna School and Lydney RFC, whilst Taite Fortey of St Peter's School and Longlevens RFC was awarded back of the match. Freeman-Price and Fortey are both playing up a year.

Head Coach, Teague, commented: "It was a very promising performance underpinned by a dominant line-out and maul early in the game, that allowed us to go and play some creative & expansive rugby."

"We now have one remaining fixture against Bath Rugby at Chippenham RFC this Saturday (1pm kick-off).

"This takes us into our end-of-season break as we then move into pre-season for preparation of the Premiership Rugby Under 18 Academy League, including an exciting pre-season fixture against Leinster Rugby U18s at Kingsholm in August."

Elsewhere, Gloucester Rugby Academy U18s player, Ioan Jones, was selected at full back last Saturday, as England faced Wales in an U19 friendly fixture.

Eight 2023 England U20s players were involved with the U19s squad with Jones steeping up an age group in their 60-12 win.

The fixture against Wales was the first of a two-match series which provides an avenue for players to continue their international development through the England Rugby pathways programme.

Everyone at Katherine Lady Berkley School, Dean Close School & Gloucester Rugby are proud of Ioan’s International recognition.
