Grove V Witney local derby

On another cold wet day, Witney travelled the short 18 miles to Calne Lane.

The clubhouse had plenty of away supporters in and anticipation of another wis was high. But its grove and we know what’s coming.

The first 30minutes saw plenty of effort but no score. Grove had a player yellow carded and the subsequent move saw Witney drive over the line with James Merrriman scoring a try and Mark Greenwood Converting.

The Half time whistle came Witney 7-0 up

After 45 Minutes Grove scored and converted to level the scores 7-7  

The next 30minutes of action was mainly from the Ref flashing out the Yellow cards 3 to Witney and one to Grove. Not a dirty game by any means but the numerical advantage to Grove saw them close to snatching the win.

It wasn’t to be as Mark Greenwood latched onto the end of a kick forward and several passes saw him cross the line. Unable to make the conversion Witney Had 6 minutes to hold on.

They just about managed that, and a 7-12 away win was celebrated by the Travelling fans and players alike.
